Stalking
For centuries people have been drawn to the Highlands of Scotland to stalk red deer. Individual shooters have returned to the same Scottish Estates year after year to enjoy the myriad of challenges this sport commands.
Stalking requires to be a skilled shot with a rifle whilst following instructions and advice from a professional Head Stalker on hillsides that allow no cover and changing winds.
Traditionally the shot deer would be taken down from the hill by a 'pony boy' and his 'garron' (Highland Pony). Modern techniques and machinery are used more widely today, but there are still a number of estates who continue to use the pony to add a special element to the client’s stalking experience.
Other deer species are widely stalked in Scotland also including Roe, Sika and Fallow, of which Roe Buck stalking is probably the second most sought after.
